Why This Firm

Strategy that survives contact with a board.

Most strategic advice fails at the point of execution, not the point of ideas. ELLE EM Advisory is built around the gap between a good plan and a plan your organisation can actually run: capital constraints, governance realities, capacity limits and the stakeholder dynamics that determine whether anything gets implemented at all.

The firm works across eight areas, from a single strategic conversation to a standing advisory relationship, and draws on direct experience in commercial strategy, capital raising and public-private partnership work within complex institutional environments.

Method

How an engagement actually runs.

Six stages, not a formula. Some engagements move through all six. Others need only the first two. The discipline is the same either way.

01

Discover

Understanding the organisation, its objectives, stakeholders and the decision actually in front of it.

02

Diagnose

Testing the current strategy, capability and governance against evidence, not assumption.

03

Design

Building a plan that accounts for funding, governance and capacity from the outset, not as an afterthought.

04

Align

Securing leadership and board alignment before a recommendation is presented, not after.

05

Execute

Working alongside your team through implementation. Advice that ends at the handover is not advice.

06

Sustain

Embedding the discipline, decision logs and review cadence so the thinking outlives the engagement.

Eight disciplines. One advisor.

Who We Work With

Built for leaders who carry the decision alone.

Founders preparing for a raise or a new phase of growth. Boards that need an independent strategic or governance view. Executives stepping into a bigger mandate than the one they were trained for. Institutions balancing a public or development mandate against commercial sustainability.

If you recognise your organisation in any of these, the right next step is a direct conversation, not a proposal built on assumptions.

Client Outcomes

What an engagement is built to produce

A decision, not an opinion

A clear, board-ready recommendation with an owner and a timeline, not a menu of options.

A funded, sequenced plan

An execution roadmap tested against capital, capacity and governance before it is presented.

A capability that stays

A team or executive equipped to keep applying the thinking after the engagement ends.

A documented record

The reasoning behind the decision, preserved for governance, audit and institutional memory.

Frequently Asked Questions

Before you get in touch

How do most engagements begin?

With a single conversation about the problem you are facing. From there, we recommend the service, or combination of services, that fits, rather than starting from a fixed package.

Do you only work with organisations in South Africa?

No. The firm is based in Johannesburg and works with organisations across South Africa and internationally, in person and remotely.

Do you work across different sectors?

Yes. Engagements span corporate, professional services and public institutions. The discipline applied is the same in each; the context is adapted to the sector.

Is everything confidential?

Yes. Every advisory relationship, and coaching and board work in particular, is governed by confidentiality from the outset.

Can services be combined?

Yes. Many clients combine a research subscription with standing advisory, or executive development alongside a strategy engagement. This is discussed directly rather than pre-packaged.

Strategy Is a Funding Decision Wearing a Strategy Costume

Most strategic plans fail before implementation starts, because nobody priced them against the balance sheet.

The Board Paper Test

If a board has to ask what you are recommending, the paper, and possibly the strategy behind it, has already failed.
